About

Daniella Wesseling, born in 1978, is of Dutch and Portuguese descent. Her paintings consist of several layers of loosely woven canvases with a widely spaced grid that leaves them semi-transparent. Every layer consists of colours and voids that fill up with the colours from underlying layers. She typically paints portraits of young women reminiscent of the fragile beauties depicted by 18th-century Pre-Raphaelites. The paintings' appearance changes, depending on the angle of perception, and it looks as if the images are floating and moving with the movements of the viewer.
