About
"I am fascinated by people – why we choose to gather, what food we share, which outfits we enjoy..."
"I watch. I stare. I also wonder about events before and after the moment I have caught on canvas. Because the image itself is only the start of a longer conversation. That is why I prefer real contact with my subjects, whether they are strangers or my friends.

Once the group is together, the occasion generates its own unique discussions, expressions, atmosphere, authenticity. Even when lodged in our history, it will resonate today."

Roeland Kneepkens is a Dutch contemporary painter known for figurative works that portray social interaction, intimate gatherings, and everyday scenes with quiet depth. A graduate of St. Joost Academy in 2004, he has developed a distinctive narrative approach rooted in close observation of real people and their gestures, creating paintings that feel both familiar and timeless.

Working in oil on fine linen, Kneepkens combines traditional technique with a modern sensibility, placing atmosphere and human connection at the center of his practice. His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad, gaining recognition among collectors for its subtle storytelling and refined craftsmanship.
