About

Erik Hijweege graduated from the photo academy in Amsterdam. From 2006 onwards, he has been attracting international attention for the Supercell series, the results of years as a storm chaser. Taken together, his various series tell the story of the forces of nature and the futility of man.
Erik travels all over the world for his long-running Sublime Nature projects and takes us, the viewer, into unknown worlds. The 'sublime' is an aesthetic concept of beauty that is grand and dangerous. In the European intellectual tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries, 'the sublime' was closely associated with nature. Erik Hijweege is fascinated by nature and its irrepressible character.
