Jan Stel Dutch, b. 1970
This charming and beautiful casino is located in Romania, perched on a cliff-side and facing the Black Sea. It was inaugurated in 1910 and is now abandoned. The building is in desperate need of investors, who can protect this piece of heritage. In order to prevent more damage and vandalism, it is guarded and monitored 24/7.
When we visited the casino, it had been abandoned for more than 30 years. It was originally built in an art deco style and the shapes and details have remained intact, despite the shutdown decades ago.
There are so many details to enjoy: the beautiful refined shapes and structures, the remains of a majestic history, subtleties with the colour pallet (though becoming paler as time passes by) and the fabulous ambiance inside and outside.
In 2020 the casino is finally being renovated.
